History
Vive Les Arts Societe was founded July 20th, 1976 by eight local couples whose main goal was to enhance the community's quality of life through artistic endeavors and to promote artistic and cultural values. In 1980 the Societe's first home was the Texas Theatre, built in 1914, in downtown Killeen. Volunteers renovated the space into a 250 seat venue and named it Vive Les Arts Theatre (VLA) presenting 6 shows the first year of 11 successful seasons there. In June of 1984, VLA leased a six acre parcel from the City of Killeen on South W.S. Young Drive in the hopes of building their own facility. In January 1991, due to the generosity of many local donors, foundations and the City of Killeen, the Societe was able to build its current home with a 400 seat house, an expansive proscenium stage, spacious lobby/art gallery and Administrative offices. Since then VLA has produced 40 fantastic seasons adhering to our promise to the community that was made in 1976.
