History
If you're like most people, you probably think that dry cleaning is dry cleaning. There's really not much to separate one dry cleaners from another, is there? That has pretty much been the case until now. Dry cleaners have always used one of two petroleum-based solvents called Perc and Hydrocarbon. Perc is classified as a Toxic Air Contaminant, and it is carefully regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), both in how it's used and how it's disposed of. Hydrocarbon, although less harmful than Perc, is classified by the EPA as a Volatile Organic Compound, a known contributor to smog formation. True Green Dry Cleaners uses a product from GreenEarth Cleaning called pure liquid silicone, which is, in essence, liquified sand. Unlike the solvents other dry cleaners use, GreenEarth's liquid silicone can be disposed of safely. In the environment, it simply returns to its natural components: sand, trace amounts of water, and carbon dioxide.
