*** Texas Heroes Museum will close from March 25 - April 4, 2024 for the Easter Holiday, We hope you have a beautiful holiday.*** The Old Fayette County Jail was opened in 1883. It was in operation for 102 years. Today it is the home of the Texas Heroes Museum, honoring Texans who have served from the time of the Texas Revolution to present day conflicts around the world to secure and defend freedom and liberty. Veterans of all conflicts are honored, as are the sheriffs that served in the old jail, Texas Rangers, modern law enforcement, firefighters, first responders, the Home Front in WWII, and others who have made personal sacrifices to make Texas a great place to live. Special features include a cell from the old jail, the Bob Lain Memorial Library of military history, replicas of weapons from the Texas Revolution to present, and the last flag to fly on the Battleship Texas. Free tours. Open Fri-Sat-Sun, but closed some holidays.
