San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department operates the various recreational and cultural programs and maintains more than 200 city-owned parks. The parks include swimming pools, gymnasiums, cemeteries, sports facilities, recreation centers and municipal golf facilities. It also operates the Botanical Garden and Conservatory and River Walk and HemisFair Park. It additionally operates various historic facilities, such as La Villita, Tower of the Americas, the Spanish Governor's Palace and Market Square. The department is responsible for the maintenance of more than 16, 600 acres of park land.
