History
Rose Costumes began as Secondhand Rose in 1976 when it was located on Fry St. at the edge of the North Texas State University campus. The original owners, Patsy Moran and Judy Smith, made the business flourish selling vintage furniture, clothes, hats and jewelry. Judy also ran a jeans mending business in the back room. During the late 70's, Judy's husband, Jim, opened Jim's Diner next door to Secondhand Rose and the two businesses soon grew into a popular Denton hangout. In the early 80's, Patsy moved to Austin to open her own shop and Judy continued on with Secondhand Rose. However, due to great customer demand for renting the vintage clothing, by the mid 80's the furniture was eliminated and the rental costumes reigned supreme. Since sewing had always been Judy's first love, making the costumes for her store was a great joy.
