Caritas of Austin
Caritas of Austin, founded in 1964, is a nonprofit organization offering social services to working poor, unemployed, homeless, and documented refugees in Austin, Texas. The organization provides hot lunches to more than 450 people each weekday, take-home food, fresh produce and personal hygiene items, one-time rent and utility assistance, and food and clothing vouchers to families in financial crisis. It also provides assistance for homeless single adult individuals who have no dependents living with them. The organization receives support from individuals, businesses, foundations, organizations, the faith community and all levels of government. More than 80 percent of its budget directly benefits clients in implementing programs against poverty, hunger and homelessness. The organization s community partners include Applied Materials, JPMorgan Chase, Stratus Properties, Texas Gas Service, ThunderCloud Subs, and Wachovia Foundation.
