Established in 1993, the STILES unit is a prison that is managed by the Correctional Institutions Division, which is governed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The unit serves more than 2,800 male offebnders. It offers ambulatory medical, dental and mental health services, as well as features over 15 assisted living beds. The STILES unit also offers instruction in business computer information system and career and technology. The unit provides respiratory and speech therapies. In addition, it offers telemedicine, hospice, cognitive intervention, apprenticeship, and adult and HIV peer education programs. The STILES unit provides access to infectious disease specialty clinics.
