The Lighthouse of Houston, founded in 1939, is a nonprofit rehabilitation center offering support services to patients suffering from visual impairments. It provides a variety of educational programs that include computer learning, technology and vocational training. The additional services offered by the organization include diabetes education; outreach programs; and family, individual and group counseling. The community services offered by the organization include adult day care, volunteer and recreational programs, eye clinics, summer camps and residential programs. It also has a specialty store that offers a variety of adaptive aids, such as talking clocks, Braille watches, mobility canes, and computer hardware and software. It is a member agency of the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast, and is located in Houston.
