History
Before even going off to college, I taught a few private students and decided to go for business school. In the course of taking classes at Rutgers Business School, I realized I had a true passion for music and piano. I missed the days I won competitions, passed with distinction on ABRSM exams, and was a part of my teacher's annual recitals. I decided then it was time to switch majors to music. Before I even graduated, I took on many private piano students who came to me through word of mouth. After graduating from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in Piano Education, I accepted a job as the Music Teacher and Choir Director at Plainfield Board of Education in NJ, continued teaching the private students who were already under my wing, and welcomed newcomers. However, after a year, in order to be closer to friends and relatives, I decided to move to Austin to begin my own private piano studio here.
Specialties
With a family history of piano and violin teachers, a bachelor's degree in music education, over a decade of private piano teaching, and public school teaching experience, I cater to each student's goal in the piano-learning journey. I teach beginners all the way up to adults a wide variety of genres, specializing in baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary music. The curriculum, should the student choose to follow a structured learning path, includes repertoire building, ear training, sight reading, rhythm exercises, theory and technique building to create well-rounded musicians. Recipient of the AAFAA Excellence in Piano Pedagogy Award, I also specialize in preparing students for ABRSM practical and theory exams, as I know many other teachers do not, state-wide and national competitions/festivals, and annual recitals should students choose to participate in any. If students are looking for casual lessons, this is something I definitely cater to as well.
