The Texas Department of Criminal Justice, administered by the state government of Texas, is responsible for providing public safety and promoting positive change in behavior of offenders and integrating them into the society. The department is also responsible for assisting victims of crime. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice manages offenders in state prisons and jails, as well as in contracted private correctional facilities. It provides funding and oversight of community supervision programs. Additionally, the department deals with the management of offenders released from prison on parole or mandatory supervision. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice operates through the health services, human resources, information technology, and manufacturing and logistics divisions.
