History
Tiring of the banking business, the founder of Armoires & More, Pete Markwardt, began frequenting estate sales and flea markets for antique armoires to stock his weekend business, The Armoire Store. Located at Preston & Royal, customers had to walk down a narrow alley to find the shop behind the center's other stores. Soon it was lucrative enough to be a full-time business, and he expanded to other categories of furnishings. In a few short years, Pete had moved back to his hometown of San Antonio to open a second store, and had reproduction furniture lines that he designed and manufactured. In 2003, while working on projects for design clients, Libby Haynes discovered what was by then Armoires & Accents. Recognizing it for the gem it was, & with a retail background, Libby approached Pete about purchasing the business, and a deal was struck. While armoires are still a part of the store, as are Pete's lines, products include lighting, upholstery, tables, accessories and more.
