Our History Alfred Heidenheimer came to Anson in the fall of 1919 to open a Dry Goods business, and Anson has had Heidenheimer's Dry Goods since. There have been many changes in the town, the residents and the business since that day in 1919 when Mr. Heidenheirmer unloaded a small stock of dry goods to begin business in the part of the Anson Opera House complex now occupied by Edwards Hardware. Mr. Heidenheimer's entry into Anson business community might have been viewed with some misgivings by owners of the approximately 20 retail concerns whose places of business already bordered the city square, but the year is remembered as a banner one in the town's economy. The war was over and cotton prices were up from six cents to 30 cents. the first merchandise offered to Anson customers by Heidenheimer had been moved here from Ballinger where Mr. Heidenheimer had been in business a short time, but by the fall of 1922 he announced an anniversary sale in Western Enterprise advertisement with a
