Founded in 1937, the Harris County Flood Control District works to provide flood damage reduction projects. The district offers tree planting, capital improvement, and vegetation and property management programs. It is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure. The district manages a communications division that provides information about the work sponsored to the general public and organized citizen groups, as well as employees of public and private entities. The Harris County Flood Control District also operates more than 20 watersheds. The district additionally operates infrastructure and administrative services divisions. It manages an engineering and construction department that consists of project and construction management sections.
