Founded in 1865, the Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from the organization each year through a range of social services, such as provision of food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing/shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. Located in San Antonio, Texas, the Salvation Army serves people in need regardless of race, creed or cultural background and offers critical life services/guidance.
