Montrose Counseling Center, founded in 1978, provides education, outreach, prevention and case management services. It is a nonprofit organization providing research and counseling services for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and people suffering from HIV and AIDS. It has a professional staff consisting of psychotherapists, licensed chemical dependency counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists. The center offers a treatment through life programs, HIV and AIDS programs, chemical dependency treatment programs, anti-violence programs and programs for senior citizens. It provides education and information regarding sexually transmitted infections, chemical dependency, hepatitis and tuberculosis, and offers seminars on issues, such as homophobia and heterosexism. It provides services to prisons, half-way houses, inpatient and outpatient recovery centers, schools, social organizations, businesses and corporations, community and neighborhood groups, health care and legal organizations, and to churches and families. The center is funded by Texas Department of Health, Texas Department of Human Services and Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Montrose Counseling Center is located in Houston.
