Founded in 1937, Farmers Electric Cooperative is a nonprofit organization that is locally owned and operated. It serves more than 30,000 homes and businesses to bring electricity in various rural areas in Texas. Farmers Electric Cooperative has a scholarship program that offers scholarships to high school seniors. Its scholarships can be applied toward tuition, housing meal plans and books at colleges and universities. Farmers Electric Cooperative supports various local emergency service providers, including Wylie Christian Care Center, Hunt County Shared Ministries, Additional Kare For Kids, Coventry, The Genesis Center, Lake Area Shared Ministries, Rains County Good Samaritan and Rockwall County Helping Hands.
