El Meson on South Lamar first opened its doors in 2010. The restaurant was started by Marisela, the owner, chef, and manager. She was inspired by the food of her region, and wanted to create a restaurant that showcased these flavors.
Specialties
El Meson specializes in homemade regional interior Mexican food at reasonable prices. With offerings like Chicken in Mole Rojo or Mole Verde, slow cooked pork dishes of Conchinita Pibil and Chilorio, a traditional Northern-Style pork in a quajillo-ancho sauce, Cheese & Beef Relleno's, you realize this isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. The menu has extensive appetizer selections including chip and salsa served with 2 salsas and escabeche, guacamole that is made to order, Salpicon de Yucatan, beef flautas, and a variety of tacos (carnitas, spinach, al pastor, and camerones al pastor). For desert you might try our homemade lime cheesecake, flan, or natilla, a vanilla-lemon custard with candied pepitas! Behind the bar you won't find simple syrup or sugar in the margaritas as we use tequila, agave nectar and lime juice.
