The Dumas Police Department works to prevent crime, preserve peace and protect the rights, lives and property of the city residents. It operates patrol and criminal investigations divisions. In addition, the department maintains crime stoppers and identification units. The Dumas Police Department s animal control unit operates a shelter for stray, injured and at-large animals, as well as undertakes issues related to animal bites, barking dogs and missing animals.
