The Dallas Police Department is a full-service, community-oriented law enforcement agency that employs a staff of more than 2,975 sworn officers and over 550 civilians and community volunteers. It maintains a criminal intelligence unit that functions to collect, store, assess and disseminate criminal intelligence information. The Dallas Police Department also has a terrorism squad that is responsible for investigating and preventing the acts of terrorism occurring in or affecting Dallas. In addition, the police department has youth operations, narcotics, internal affairs and family violence divisions, as well as a computer crime team and a planning and crime analysis unit. The Dallas Police Department has been operational for more than 120 years and maintains a station in Dallas.
