Tucked away behind a residential neighborhood, Covert Park at Mount Bonnell, typically just called Mount Bonnell, offers the best view in Austin from the highest point possible at 775 feet. The peak is reached by a flight of stone stairs and offers visitors a picnic area, small pavilion and a short hiking trail, all with a panoramic view of downtown Austin, Lake Austin and nearby Texas Hill Country. Moderate enough for nearly all travelers, Mount Bonnell suits the needs of picnickers, hikers, nature lovers and those just looking to get a breath of fresh air.

Insider Tip for Visitors to Mount Bonnell
Sunscreen and a camera are a must to keep you comfortable and capture the view from Mount Bonnell. Remember that the summer heat in Austin can be quite punishing on an uncovered head. And on your way up the stone steps, make sure to make use of the railing: Mount Bonnell has been a popular picnic location since 1850 and time has worn those stones down to smooth, slippery surfaces.
