History
The Market was started as Third Avenue Market by Lendon Wilson and Hoss Montfort in 1956. In 1963 that location burned and they moved to the current location on Beaton Street. Hoss passed away in the mid 1980's and Lendon purchased his interest. In 1990 Tommy Johnston and J.D. Johnston both relatives of Lendon purchased the market. Both had been long time employees. They continued to run the Market together until 2011 when Tommy retired, J.D. purchased his interest and continued to operate it until 2013, when Nick Veldman purchased the business and change the name to Beaton Meat Market, reflecting the current location. Nick was born in Rhodesia in Southern Africa and moved to Corsicana in 1987. His Grandfather, Uncle and Brother were all three butchers in Zimbabwe and is Fathers Cousin was also a butcher in their hometown in Holland. In this era of the market we strive too keep the old fashioned service feel of meat markets of old, while trying to add the convenience of today.
