Keil Software was founded in 1986 to market add-on products for the development tools provided by many of the silicon vendors. The company develops, manufactures and distributes embedded software development tools for 8051, 251, ARM and XC16x/C16x/ST10 microcontroller families. It provides ANSI C compilers, macro assemblers, real-time executives, debuggers and simulators, integrated environments and evaluation boards. All Keil products come with a one-year software maintenance contract, which includes technical support and product updates. In 2005, ARM, a digital technologies product design company headquartered in Cambridge, UK, acquired Keil. Keil operates jointly through two privately owned companies, Keil Elektronik GmbH in Grasbrunn, Germany, and Keil Software in Plano, Texas. The two companies have a combined gross assets valued at $4.6 million.
