Alvaro I. Montealegre, MD, is a gynecologic surgeon who is passionate about improving women’s health and delivery outcomes utilizing minimally invasive techniques. He has devoted his practice to performing and teaching minimally invasive gynecologic surgery to the next generation of physicians. Montealegre an associate professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, and co-director of the Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Fellowship. He completed his medical school education in Costa Rica at the Autonomous University of Central America, and his residency training at Tulane University and Methodist/St. Joseph Hospital in Houston in 2007. After six years in private practice, he joined McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston in 2014. In his spare time, Montealegre enjoys traveling, sailing, windsurfing, and brewing beer.
