MIFA or Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association, based in Memphis, Tenn., offers a range of services to elderly citizens. The institution dispatches staff and volunteers to help low-income senior citizen homeowners with minor home repairs. It provides volunteers and staff who act as advocates for residents of nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and residential care homes. Approximately 100 volunteers deliver more than 2,500 hot meals to seniors at homes and congregate sites each weekday and certain Saturdays throughout the year. Additionally, MIFA helps senior citizens get to and from doctors appointments, pharmacies, banks, congregate meals sites and grocery stores. MIFA also meets the critical needs of infants, children, teens and parents. Some of these programs address homelessness while others, such as the teen job services program, act as early intervention tools.
