National Transportation Research Center, also known as NTRC, performs research and development on advanced transportation technologies and systems. The center offers one of the largest concentrations of transportation researchers in the United States, housing research and development programs and laboratories from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and University of Tennessee. Its research focuses on areas, such as energy efficiency, environment, information systems and logistics, and safety. NTRC utilizes state-of-the-art hardware and computing technologies to deal with problems of national and international significance, such as declining air quality, dependence on unstable oil supplies, traffic congestion, highway safety, and national security.
