Founded in 1854, the Knoxville Fire Department provides fire protection and rescue services. It serves more than 150,000 citizens. The department offers fire and life safety codes and public fire education programs. The Knoxville Fire Department has over 300 full-time firefighters and approximately 40 fire suppression and rescue units. It also has nearly 15 fire stations.
