Knoxville's Community Development Corporation is the housing and redevelopment agency for Knoxville. Operational since 1936, it is one of the largest public housing authorities in Tennessee. The public agency is responsible for administering public housing and rental assistance programs for qualifying citizens. Knoxville's Community Development Corporation owns, manages and maintains more than 4,000 low income rental units in the Knoxville city. Additionally, the public agency administers a program that allows over 1,700 families to secure affordable housing in the private market in Knoxville.
