No one can visit Mitchell without seeing The World's Only Corn Palace. Established in 1892 and at its present location since 1921, the structure is stripped each year and decorated anew with murals formed by thousands of bushels of corn, grasses, grains, and other products celebrating South Dakota's bounty. The Corn Palace is mentioned in the book "1,000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die".
