Providence Health has a long rich history of providing premier quality care to the Midlands of SC. Providence introduced the 1st cardiac program to the Midlands community 40+ years ago and has been a champion for many firsts in the Midlands since, including the first: absorb stent in SC, biventricular implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), carotid stent, cardiac ablation, coronary angioplasty, coronary stent, drug eluting stent implantation, electrophysiology study, intravascular ultrasound system in the US, off-pump coronary artery bypass, open heart surgery, mitrial valve replacement, pacemaker implant, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), TAVR, and more. Founded as Providence Hospitals in 1938 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine. Joining LifePoint Health in February 2016, the name changed to Providence Health. It was founded as a Catholic Health Care System and it remains committed to its faith-based identity today.

Providence Hospital, located in downtown Columbia, is a 247-bed hospital founded in 1938 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine to minister to the community, in both body and spirit. The facility is best known for the expertise in cardiac care it provides through Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, which serves as a nationally recognized referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Providence Hospital Northeast, our newest facility is dedicated to making quality, compassionate health care more convenient for families in the rapidly growing Northeast area of Columbia. We offer Emergency services, orthopaedic and joint care, general surgery, laboratory services, radiology and imaging. Providence Hospital Notheast is located at 120 Gateway Corporate Blvd., Columbia, (I-77 at Farrow Road).
