History
The first of South Carolina's Tourism Regions, Pendleton District was established to promote historic preservation and economic development through Tourism in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of SC. Our name goes back to the days when Pendleton District was established in 1790 as the governmental district. The original district was divided into Pickens District and Anderson District in 1826. A second division of the Pickens District resulted in Oconee County and Pickens County at which time Anderson District became Anderson County.
