Myrtle Beach International Airport is three miles from the central area of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in Horry County. The airport was built on what was once the Myrtle Beach Air force Base and until 1993 the site housed both the commercial airport and the Air Force Base. This joint use of the runway limited both entities in functioning at capacity so in 1993 the Air Force Base moved its operations. In 1996 MYR became an international airport and construction began on a new terminal that’s architectural elements reflected the areas beach setting.
The top three domestic destinations from MYR Airport are Charlotte, New York City and Atlanta. MYR Airport annually averages just fewer than 1 million passengers and offers non-stop flights to over 25 cities in the United States.
MYR consists of two terminals compromised in a two-story structure with dining and shopping options on both stories. Airport Ambassadors are always on hand to help passengers with any questions about the airport and the surrounding area. Parking includes short-term and long term lots, a cell phone lot and offers free handicapped parking. Four car rental companies are on-site including Alamo, Avis, Budget and Dollar Rental Cars. There are several hotel options about a mile from the airport including the Gazebo Inn Myrtle Beach, the Red Roof Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach and the Hampton Inn & Suites Oceanfront Myrtle Beach.
