The Medical University of South Carolina, also known as MUSC, is a public institution of higher learning for more than 2,300 health care professionals and biomedical scientists. The university introduces new technologies and fosters research links with other academic institutions. It has been serving the citizens of South Carolina since 1824. The Medical University of South Carolina administers a medical center and over five colleges. The university offers hospital-based training programs in the areas of cytotechnology and radiologic technology. It annually has over 27,000 inpatient admissions and nearly 630,000 outpatient visits. The Medical University of South Carolina s specialties include ophthalmology, hearing loss, genetics, rheumatology and cancer care. With a staff of approximately 500 full-time teaching faculty members, the university s library maintains more than 230,000 books. It has over 40-acre medical complex.
