Though hard to imagine today, most of Horry County was without telephone service just over five decades ago. Today, Horry Telephone Cooperative is one of the nation's largest telephone cooperatives and the 25th largest telephone company. Founded in 1952, it celebrates over 50 years of service to the community as a local communications leader. HTC Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of HTC, Inc., offers local telephone service in Horry and parts of Georgetown counties. A full menu of communications services is available from HTC, Inc. and HTC Communications, including, local phone service, cable, Internet access, cable modems, DSL, long distance and digital wireless service. The cooperative now serves more than 90,000 access lines with state-of-the art equipment and services. Its offices are in Conway, S.C.
