The William Enston Home in Charleston, SC is a historic planned community for the elderly, featuring 24 residential cottages, a community building, an infirmary, an engine house, a water tower, and an entrance gate. Designed in 1889, the complex showcases Romanesque Revival architecture and spacious landscaped grounds, reflecting the suburban planning ideals of the 19th century. Founded by philanthropist William Enston, an English immigrant who made his fortune in trade, the Home was established to provide a comfortable living environment for aged and infirm residents.
