Central Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative based in Columbia, South Carolina. Established in 1948, it is owned by the twenty distribution cooperatives of South Carolina and provides wholesale electric service to the entire state, serving approximately one-third of its population.
With transmission and distribution lines spanning all forty-six counties of South Carolina, Central owns nearly 800 miles of transmission lines that connect its members to the bulk power systems of Duke Energy Carolinas and Santee Cooper. While Central owns community solar and peaking generator assets, it primarily sources its power through long-term purchase agreements with Santee Cooper, Duke Energy Carolinas, and the Southeastern Power Administration.
