The Aiken County Detention Center houses an average of 375 to 450 inmates, who are awaiting trial or serving sentences less than 90 days. Opened in 2002, the detention center is a medium security facility with various minimum to maximum security housing units. It employs a staff of more than 70 sworn and administrative officers. The Aiken County Detention Center offers a variety of services, such as medical, food, inmate commissary, inmate telephone system and barber, as well as supports a volunteer chaplain program. Located in Aiken, S.C., it works under the Aiken County Sheriff s Office, which is a law enforcement agency that preserves peace and order, as well as detects and prevents crime.
