Aiken County Board of Disabilities, founded in 1987, provides community services to children and adults with autism, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, mental retardation and related disabilities. Its programs include individualized family service plan, family support and respite services, home and community-based Medicaid waiver and head and spinal cord injury Medicaid waiver. The board has child and adult development centers and aims to maximize independence, safeguard and support human rights and dignity and provide education and resources to public to help in understanding and prevention of autism, head and spinal cord injuries and mental retardation.
