Platte is a city in Charles Mix County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,230 at the 2010 census. The community is named after the Platte Creek.
Settlement began in the area in the early 1880s. A fur trader named Bernard Pratte once lived in the area. A mistranscription of his name gave rise the name of Platte Creek and the city.
