The Cranston Police Department is led by Col. Marco Palombo Jr., a native son of Cranston and a firm believer in community policing.
This large police department recently restructured its patrols, splitting the city into three distinct districts, each commanded by a district lieutenant who oversees a group of patrol officers who work the same beat every shift. This helps officers better understand the issues facing the neighborhoods they serve and helps residents feel comfortable and familiar with the officers they see every day.
Along with a large patrol division, Cranston Police operate a detective division, an office of professional standards, a training unit, honor guard, underwater recovery team, special reaction team and an inspectional services division.
In 2007, Cranston Police responded to 71,649 alls for service and made 2,718 arrests. Fifty-three percent of calls were responded to in one minute or less.
In an emergency situation, always call 911.
