United States Steel Corporation, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa., manufactures a wide variety of steel sheet, tubular and tin products; coke and taconite pellets. The steel producer has a worldwide annual raw steel capability of more than 26.8 million tons. U. S. Steel's domestic steel operations are the Gary Works, Gary, Ind.; Great Lakes Works, Ecorse and River Rouge, Mich.; Mon Valley Works, Pittsburgh and Fairless Works, Philadelphia, Pa.; Granite City Works in Granite City, Ill. and other locations in the South and Midwest. The company also operates a seamless tubular mill, Lorain Pipe Mills, in Lorain, Ohio. Internationally, U. S. Steel has steelmaking subsidiaries in Kosice, Slovakia and U. S. Steel Serbia in Sabac and Smederevo, Serbia. When founded in 1901, U. S. Steel Corporation was the largest business enterprise ever launched, with an authorized capitalization of $1.4 billion. Its founding fathers are the captains of American industry, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and Charles Schwab. Throughout the years, U. S. Steel has responded to changing economic conditions and new market opportunities through diversification and periodic restructuring. Today, 104 years after its founding, U. S. Steel remains the largest integrated steel producer in the United States.
