Our company, Welded Sheet Metal Specialty Company began in 1948. My uncle John always dreamed of having his own business. At the age of 13, John went to Cleveland to apprentice in sheet metal and welding. During the 1930's, he worked for major airplane manufacturers such as Curtis-Wright and Glen-Martin. In 1948, John was working in Pittsburgh for Limbaugh, a steel fab shop. There he met Pete Kecks, his future partner. Their skills and experience complimented the other. Welded Sheet Metal began May 18, 1948 in three garages in an alley on Pittsburgh's North Side. They fabricated HVAC Ductwork and other light sheet metal parts. They didn't have much equipment, so a good friend with a shop close by let John and Pete use his In 1956, my father, Frank Mehalov joined the company. He was to handle all of the administrative duties, Uncle John and Pete ran the shop. In 1956, Welded Sheet Metal moved to our present location in the Sheridan area of Pittsburgh, PA. Since then, we have continued to grow and diversify by adding the latest technology in machines.
