History
Sisters Place, Inc., was founded in 1993 by a group of 14 Catholic religious communities. These women wanted to serve the needs of those who were poor. They chose to provide housing and supportive services to single mothers and their children. Because of the Mon Valley area's acute need for such programming, the members selected Clairton, Pennsylvania, as the home of Sisters Place. The founders believed it important that Sisters Place residents be part of a larger community, and so after aggressive fundraising, they purchased 16 apartments within the 450-unit Century Townhomes complex. One of these serves as the Program Center. The religious communities continue to support Sisters Place in countless ways. On August 2, 2011, the Associates of the Sisters of St. Joseph helped prepare a new home for one of our future Day Light Housing Program residents.
