German immigrant Edward Frauenheim founded Iron City Brewing Company as Frauenheim, Miller & Company in 1861. The company moved to its current location in 1866. It was the first American brewery to produce a lager and in cooperation with Alcoa produced the first snap top can in 1962. A year later the company introduced its first twist off resealable cap. In 2004, Business Week chose the company's aluminum bottle as one of the ten best products of the year. It was the first company to distribute the aluminum bottle on a national scale. Iron City Brewing Company products include Iron City Beer, Iron City Light and Augustiner.
