Founded by Paul and Mildred Krentel, Melmark has been operational for more than 25 years. Formerly known as Melmark New England, it is one of the leading providers of mental health services in the United States. Located in Berwyn, Pa., the center serves more than 5,000 children and young adults with developmental disabilities in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Melmark provides a wide variety of services, such as residential care, educational programs, therapeutic activities and recreational solutions. The center is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Department of Public Welfare. It is affiliated with the National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children, Council for Exceptional Children, and the Autism Society of America. The Melmark School provides day and residential special education services to children and adolescents ages of 5 through 21 years, and offers corrective solutions for autism spectrum disorder, acquired brain injury, mental retardation, cerebral palsy and neurological disorders.
