Founded in 1893, Lighthouse Philadelphia is a nonprofit organization, serving the Kensington community of Philadelphia. The organization provides educational, recreational and economic improvement programs to families and individuals to improve the quality of their lives. Its adult education program offers graduate equivalent degree and pre-GED, multi-levels of English as a Second Language and adult basic education classes in both English and Spanish to more than 1,500 individuals. It also provides various support services, including counseling and educational, cultural and life skills development workshops. The organization also operates a Youth Service Center that comprises a workout and fitness center, boxing center, classrooms, online computer laboratory, dance and visual arts studios, reading center and library, kitchen and dinning room facilities, game room and pool hall and an indoor swimming pool. Its other programs include economic development, family school, teen parenting, and program for teen parents. Located in Philadelphia, the organization has partnership with Concilio, Nueva Esperanza, Norris Civic Association, and Philadelphia Youth Network.
