Klingensmith s Drug Store is an eight-store family-run drug chain that is based in Ford City, Pa. To build its growth potential, Klingensmith s has redesigned its loyalty card program in order to double the number of its cardholder members. One way of achieving this goal is to promote in-store promotions. Its cashiers wear buttons on their uniforms that advertise the store s newly-designed card. As an incentive, employees are paid 25 cents for each cardholder they sign up, and for every 10, employees will receive a $5 in-store gift certificate. In 2004, Klingensmith s reported more than $24 million in sales. Its store sizes range between 3,000 square feet and 4,200 square feet.
