Originally a social club, Golden Slipper Charities was founded in 1922 by a group of Jewish masons. Club members would play for money then distribute their winnings to needy families. Today, this charitable organization serves the needs of both the young and old of the greater Philadelphia area. Golden Slipper members founded and volunteer in a children's camp, a senior citizen center and a college scholarship fund. This organization now boasts 1,000 members -- both men and women from local communities. The organization's mission statement is as follows: "Our object and purpose shall be to engage in charitable activities and to promote a spirit of fraternalism and good fellowship among our members."
