Dr. Murariu is the Director of Microsurgery and Lymphatic Surgery at Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Clinical Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He performs cosmetic surgery procedures and reconstructive surgery and has a particular interest in lymphedema surgery, da Vinci robotic reconstruction, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and microsurgery focusing on head and neck and on breast reconstruction. Dr. Murariu is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and by the American Board of Surgery. He holds a microsurgery certificate from the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He serves on the Patient Safety Committee for the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He also serves on three other national committees for the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Murariu performed the world’s first surgery of a breast reconstruction with sensate flap and lymph node transfer, which was featured on CBS KDKA-TV nightly news (https://youtu.be/nLL). He is also part of a very small group of plastic surgeons performing robotic surgery for perineal and breast reconstruction. Dr. Murariu has published more than two dozen journal articles and book chapters and also served as an ad hoc peer reviewer for several journals. Since 2015, he has been working internationally to bring new procedures and techniques to developing countries. He is involved in charitable activities through his Rotary Club and a foundation he started in 2006 (www.fdm.ro). Dr. Murariu has received multiple awards, including the Rotary Club District 5000 Peacemaker Award and a State of Hawai’i Proclamation by the House of Representatives in 2012.
