Tasty Baking Company
Tasty Baking Company s history goes back to 1914, when a Pittsburgh baker, Philip J. Baur, and a Boston egg salesman, Herbert T. Morris, went into business to produce baked goods. They insisted on farm fresh eggs, Grade A creamery butter, real milk, cocoa, spices and natural flavorings. Morris wife said the first cakes baked were tasty , so Morris and Baur named the business Tasty Baking Company and came up with the catchy name, Tastykake, for its products. At ten cents a cake, Morris sold more than $220 worth in the first week. By the end of 1914, gross sales were nearly $300,000. Other products include cupcakes, donuts, honey buns, Juniors, Kandy Kakes, Kremies, Krimpets, pies, Sensables, Snak Bars, seasonal items and snowballs. With more than $250 million in annual sales, Tasty Baking Company has a location in Philadelphia.
