The Carmelite monastary in Upper Saucon Township is home to a small order of Carmelite nuns. Some historians date the Carmelite order back to the 12th century. The monastary is one of only 70 in the world. On Sundays at 3:30pm, the public is invited to join in a benediction inside the chapel. Inside, visitors can see a first-degree relic of St. Therese of Lisieux, also known as the "little flower of Jesus." The chapel at the Carmelite monastary is known as the Little Flower Shrine-Chapel.
